Broker crash changing Data Source on 20+ reports

I found I can add 50 reports to the list, but reliably update about 10 reports at a time, so maybe a Select Next 10 would work. Trying to update 20+ simple reports usually results in a broker crash.

50 reports should be easily handled. Our .rpt Inspector Professional Suite and .rpt Inspector Enterprise Suite often handled several thousand as well (though the limitations was the GDI objects count that Windows could handle and would vary from system to system depending mostly on the graphics card memory and the drivers) but our goal is to certainly exceed the desktop tools limits and .rpt Inspector Online doesn’t have the same GDI objects limitation. We routinely test with several thousand without issues.

My first thought was on something in some of those reports that may be causing that, but if you’re able to do them all in batches of 10 without errors then something else is happening.

Would it be possible to share these reports with us so we can analyze them in a development environment? We don’t need (nor want) the data, just the templates. And if yes, please don’t post / upload them in the forums, once you respond I’ll send you details where.

Also, can you provide some details on your environment, specifically:

  • Windows version
  • Is it 32bit or 64bit
  • What is the latest service pack level applied
  • How much RAM
  • What is your Crystal Reports version
  • What version were the reports saved in

Here is my Crystal Dev environment:

  • Windows 7 Pro as a VM on ESX6
  • 32-bit
  • SP1
  • 4 GB
  • Crystal Developer 11.5.12.1838

Browser running and docs added before Change Data Source: 1.43GB used
After 10 files: 1.45 GB
After 20 files: 1.47 GB
At 30 files: 1.49 GB

Run 2: 1.44 GB to start
1.47 at 10
Crashed at report 18 1.47 GB

Thanks for the additional details! Does it always crash on report 18? If you were to skip it in the selection, does it continue fine on the next report?

@petergruenbeck we’ve not been able to duplicate this issue with the 0.5.8 release of the broker and your sample set. To test further, I’ve added a couple hundred reports without issues just now. Let me know if you continue to have problems.

Marking this is solved. @petergruenbeck if you continue to experience this issue, please let us know.
