Windows 7 End of Life and how it affects .rpt Inspector Online - Broker

As of January 14, 2020, Microsoft will no longer provide security updates or support for PCs running Windows 7. This means that computers running on Windows 7 will be more vulnerable to security risks and viruses. To avoid these risks, Microsoft recommends updating to Windows 10. At Software Forces, the security of our users’ data is a top priority. To help users safeguard their information, we strongly recommend that users using Windows 7 upgrade to Windows 10.

As noted on the chart below, in 2019, almost 24% of our users were on Windows 7.

We know that some of our users often have legacy systems to maintain and some are still working with reports as old as Crystal Reports 5 (ouch!).

The Windows requirement is for our desktop helper application .rpt Inspector Online - Broker which is used for adding and modifying reports while the various analysis and documentation tools support any operating system and version that meet the supported browser requirement.

Still, for those of you that are unable to upgrade, you’ll be happy to know that it’s our intention to support Windows 7 until 2022 for our .rpt Inspector Online - Broker – so long as the development tools we use to build it continue to allow it.

If you have a specific use case, have questions or comments on how this impacts you, please do let us know.
